All acts committed by such elements in any context are deemed correct. University officials, police become mute spectators. Again, a sorry state of affairs, but it is going on. Wealth leads to status and connections and rather than putting these in to the well being of the society, it is used to flout legal norms of the society. Suppression and repression become its formal parts. Memory can recall many brazen acts of hooliganism caused, created and ending in compromises brought about by the police compounded under pressure. Public memory being short, such incidents go into oblivion with time and are recalled when a fresh incident occurs. Some simply go unreported as the other side is well connected. Similar things occurred in the incident related to our Tribune Journalist, who was subjected to thrashing. Couple of cases came to fore with the report, crying for justice. There is dire need to change the mindset of such persons or class of persons, but again the question that haunts the common person is; will it voluntarily come. As long as these sections continue to get the political or official patronage, this is utopian to cherish.
