Civil Aviation Secretary M Nambiar briefed top PMO officials on the Air India crisis, a meeting in which Cabinet Secretary K M Chandrashekhar was also present. In a bid to ease the impact of the crisis on the stranded passengers, the ministry has requested that airlines abstain from overcharging passengers. The Ministry has also asked them to accommodate passengers from the cancelled Air India flights. With both Jet as well as the Air India strike taking place within month of each other, the meeting will also seek to find a solution to the problem of recurring strikes. Meanwhile, a word from the Air India, which has reportedly suffered a loss of over Rs 80 crore in three days, today said that the booking for the carrier's domestic flights will remain suspended till further notice. Air India CMD, Arvind Jadhav added that a total of 180 pilots reported sick today and all morning flights of Air India would remain cancelled till some other alternative arrangement comes into light.
The Civial Aviaiton Secretary M Nambiar, who is in a crucial meeting with the pilots and the management said, "Private airlines have been asked not to increase fare and tariff in view of the agitation by Air India Executive pilots." However, the pilots said that they were not invited by the management for talks to resolve the crisis.
