Patti LaBelle Tickets - a New Generation For LaBelle
With a slew of today's hottest producers and R&B artists aboard, including Kenny Gamble, Leon Huff and Lenny Kravitz, the group's comeback album is not going to see reluctance in any of its reviewers. "You don't want to half-step something this important" LaBelle said in an interview with The Toronto Star, explaining the delay between albums. "We still talked with one another through the years and we never officially had a farewell tour or anything like that. My solo career took off, so it was about finding the right time and place." LaBelle formed in 1962 from the ashes of another soul quartet the Ordettes, whose former members Patricia Holt and Cindy Birdsong met up with Wynona "Nona" Hendryx and Sarah Dash to create the group BlueBelles. When their producer Bobby Martin suggested a name change for Patricia from Holt to LaBelle, the group started seeing success with LaBelle leading the Belles to Top R&B success. After the group signed with Atlantic records in 1965 and Birdsong left, the trio continued to work together as the '70s allowed for a makeover, which along with a new look and manager came a new name - LaBelle. Over the next few years the group continued to change record labels and their sound, hitting a more R&B rock genre and a core with their single "Lady Marmalade." The number one single found LaBelle struggling to see a successor, and after a few commercial disappointments the group split in the mid '70s.
