In 2008-09, employment was provided to nearly 4.5 crore households under this Act. The policymakers hope to achieve the full potential of this employment program. They think that the purchasing power of rural people will increase and will result in declining of number of people below poverty line. The allocation to NREGA has increased by Rs 39,000 crore this year. Truly, the capital is available to supply gainful livelihood security for at least 100 days to the rural poor, thanks to government of India. The demand of job in rural market is plenty. The supply of capital through NREGA is also more than enough. But the market equilibrium could not achieve due to leakages. Some study reveals that no rural poor family could avail 100 days employment during a year. There has been siphoned off and misappropriation of funds by the government officials. The social audit has no role even though it is in the Act. The PRIs have been completely sidelined in the implementation of the NREGA.    From the first Five year plan, the poor of India have been witnessing various poverty alleviation program and employment generation program.
