An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of PopupsAuthor: Gino OrfitelliWeve all seen them popup on our monitors. The dreaded Popup! An unwanted window that opens up all on its own as we are happily surfing on what seems to be a safe website.  It doesnt matter how many anti popups programs you have running...they always get in.  Some of them are harmless advertising for a product someone thinks your demographic wants.  Some of them are annoying symbols of the nepharious side of the internet. Some are just downright malicious such as the Personal Antivirus blight that has been spreading from computer to computer in epidemic proportions. Malicious popups like the Personal Antvirus are designed to trick the computer user into thinking that agreeing to accept help is actually the right thing to do. Most of these malicious popups are doubly loaded because while you might be savy enough to NOT click on the "agree" button....you might not realize that clicking on the button they have marked as ignore...does the same thing as the "agree" button.The common theme here is clicking. In a word.....if you arent sure of what you are clicking on....dont!Look down at your task bar.  You will see little boxes which represent the programs that are actively running in wondows on your system.  If you right click on the box that represents the popup window, you can select the "Close" option by left clicking it and the offending Popup will close down without you ever having touched it.Another way to eliminate the popup is to enter the Task Manager ( Ctrl / Alt / Del ).  You will see a list of the programs running in open windows on your computer.  Select the offending popup window and simply left click on the "End Task " button....Popup eliminated.Even the pro's get Popups ( present company included ) its how you deal with them that keeps you safe.
